Pitaziki: Slow Food, Done Quickly

Pitaziki is not your typical fast food restaurant. For one, the Mediterranean menu features falafel, hummus, and pita. Second, food is entirely made to order. Third, for a small menu, there are a plethora of options.

The restaurant has been around for a little over a year and has seen tremendous success. Sitting in the heart of New Haven’s downtown, the restaurant is frequented by students and business people from the surrounding area.

Pitaziki is run by a father and son duo with a knack for combining words together. The restaurant’s name is a catchy combination of pita (the delicious bread) and taziki (the delicious sauce). The restaurant also features schwarfel, a combination of schwarma and falafel.

As good as they are at combining words, they are even better at combining flavors. While the options for toppings are all too plentiful (many more than Chipotle, we are assured), there is simply no way to go wrong. Choose any form, any toppings, any sauce, and somehow Pitaziki combines it into one delectable dish.

Perfect if you are on the run or want a quick, healthy meal, Pitaziki provides delectable in a dash. Falafels are fried for each order. None of that slightly greasy, lukewarm, chickpea mush, but instead hot, crispy outsides with a soft and tasty center. Pitas are served warm with each order. The hummus is delightfully creamy and made fresh each day. Whether you choose falafel, shwarma or the shwarfel (a little bit of both worlds!) you can be sure that what you are eating is fresh and fast.

Pair your meal with their house-made unsweetened mint iced tea and their dessert speciality, the nutella pita, and you have a well-balanced meal that will leave you full and already waiting for your next trip to Pitaziki.  IMG_5080
